We know many weddings have had to be postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus –some couples even opting to marry in their gardens over zoom to their friends and family at the start of the outbreak! Many couples have been looking to re-arrange their wedding for a later date next year or have had DJs, decorating companies and venues cancel. This has left many couples disheartened and disappointed about their upcoming nuptials.
As current guidelines stand, only small marital ceremonies and civil partnerships can take place. The 2-metre social distancing is still vital for these ceremonies to take place, with 1-metre being advised if 2 is not viable.
Ceremonies are currently limited to no more than a total of 30 people and these can only take place in all licensed venues where legal marriage ceremonies can take place. This is currently the law. Marriages can only take place in ‘COVID-19 secure environments’ that these legal numerical guest restrictions take place. The time frame on wedding ceremonies has been reduced and advised that ceremonies and services should be concluded in the shortest reasonable time to help limit the spread of coronavirus.
The government have suggested that religious ceremonies that would otherwise spread across several hours or days to be reduced to minimise the spread of infection.
From the 1st of August, small wedding receptions will be able to take place with a sit-down meal, however this is restricted to no more than 30 people. Apart from this, the government has stated that no food or drink should be consumed unless required for solemnisation purposes.
